PRP Hair

  • Stimulate Dormant Hair Follicles   •  Hair Restoration Therapy

Named Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) Prp hair regrowth is being used on the scalp as it can stimulate dormant hair follicles and encourage them to start growing again.

The optimum results can be seen at three months. At this stage it is decided whether a second treatment is required or not. This treatment can be used as a standalone treatment or alongside a hair transplant procedure (usually one month pre-procedure).

So how does PRP Hair Regrowth work?

The treatment, which takes around an hour and a half, involves taking four syringes of the patient’s blood and putting it in a centrifuge (a rotating piece of medical equipment) to separate the plasma from the red blood cells – this is the same technique as PRP for the face.
Local anaesthetic injections are then injected into the scalp, which will ensure the area is numb.

Vampire Scalp (PRP) Hair Restoration Therapy

PRP has been successfully utilized in orthopedic and cosmetic procedures where injections of the patient’s own platelet rich plasma encourages the repair of tissue damage. Labeled by some as the “Vampire” cell therapy treatment, researchers are confident the blood plasmas can stimulate new stem cell growth in the area of hair loss. Published scientific studies suggest that these blood-derived growth factors can play an essential role in controlling hair follicle function, making Platelet Rich Plasma an effective therapy for alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia (female and male pattern hair loss). The basic principle is that when these growth factors are highly concentrated and reintroduced into the affected areas of the scalp, they send cellular signals to reverse the miniaturization of hair follicles, helping them produce healthier, thicker and stronger hair. PRP has been shown to provide patients with improved coverage and reduced shedding. In addition to the promising scientific studies, we have found in treating our hair loss patients with PRP at World Wellness Health in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania that dramatic reversal of inactive hair follicles is truly possible.

What can I expect the Vampire Scalp Hair Restoration Therapy procedure to be like?

A PRP hair growth treatment is a quick outpatient procedure that takes less than one hour. First, a small blood sample is obtained from the patient and stored in a sterile test tube which is then spun at high speeds in a special centrifuge to separate the platelets from the different components of the blood to produce platelet-rich plasma. After preparing the scalp with a numbing cream, the PRP is injected into the areas of weak hair growth. We then use a micro-needling device to create tiny channels on the surface of the scalp to further stimulate the release of the growth factors from the platelets and boosts their influence on cellular activity at the level of the hair follicles.

What are the risks of PRP treatment?

Since the prp hair regrowth treatment is derived from your own blood with sterile equipment and preparation, there is no risk of side effects, allergic reaction, or drug interaction. Since the blood is drawn, processed and re-injected, a minimal risk of infection (<1%) is always present, but only the same as a standard blood draw and much lower than other types of injectable cosmetic procedures. In medical studies, side effects and complications from PRP injections are extremely rare. Repeat treatments may be needed over time to achieve or maintain the desired result.

After the procedure, most of our patients will only require acetaminophen to help with mild discomfort, if any. There is no downtime or recovery period with PRP, so patients can go about their normal routines immediately after treatment and even shampoo their hair that same evening. Each patient is unique so results may vary.
